The Homeless Shelter Ministry was established in 1996 under the late Reverend Lenwood Graham Sr. pastor of the First Baptist Church of Merrifield. The members included: Trustee Gene Hudson, Sister Lavern Terry, Reverend Vernon Pettus and a host of youth who served diligently with a vision to go out to be a servant for the Lord (Matthew 25:31-46). As a result of this, the body of believer donated food to be served at Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter in Falls Church, Virginia. In 2000, the vision continued at the shelter and the name was changed to Feeding by Christian Mercy (FBCM) Homeless Shelter Ministry. Thus, it became financially supported by First Baptist Church of Merrifield. Sister Joann Jackson served as chairperson organizing the menu, Trustee Gene Hudson served as assistant chairperson he communicated with the administrators of the shelter and chef for the ministry.
In 2012 Sister Diane Haight served as chairperson. She took on the lead for organizing the menus and assisting Brother Hudson with picking up groceries. In 2013 Sister Brenda Collins serves as chairperson. Brother Hudson became ill and physically unable to continue with the ministry but his unfailing love for it remained. While in recovery, Reverend Pickett visited Brother Hudson and his request to Reverend Pickett was to continue the ministry at Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter. It continues -members with the love of servant hood remained faithful; Minister John Jenkins serves as chef and Sister Marjorie serves as assistant chef.
Our mission is to be a servant of God.
Our goal is to help and support those who are less fortunate. As they have received shelter, we assist by preparing and serving a nutritional home cooked meal.
